Andalusia
The
real value of Andalusia is its diversity, the heritage of three
cultures- the Christian, the Moslem and the Jewish- which lived
together in harmony before the intolerance started to rule.
With the rest of Europe it shares cave paintings, the legate
of Rome, the plainness of the Romanic and the magnificence of
the Gothic, but in no other place you can find historical milestones
like those of Granada, Cordoba and Toledo (Castilla-La Mancha),
where three religions lived together in peace. The landscapes
of the villages and cities offer the biggest biological diversity
in the whole of Europe.
Do
you want to get to know Andalusia in a different way, step by
step, learning, and discovering the surroundings? Would you
like to get to know and understand the landscape, the flora,
every corner of our geography? Do you want to know more about
the history of this region, about customs and traditions that
have long disappeared in other places? We will inform you and
offer the realization of different activities of cultural and
environmental character, where the most important geographical,
historical, socio-political and artistic aspects will be explained.
These activities give you the opportunity to become part of
the culture and nature of each zone and to get to know the rich
heritage of the different places in our region.
Sevilla
Sevilla embodies the most universal variety of the Spanisch
spirit because of its artistic richness, the typical streets
and its urban physiognomy, important monuments such as the
Giralda, the "Torre Almohade", the Alcazar, the "palacio mudéjar",
which is known from medieval legends, the Cathedral, being
the third in magnitude of all Christian churches, the "Torre
del Oro", and also parks and rivers, picturesque corners,
avenues and lanes.... Religious holidays such as the "Semana
Santa", the Easter-week, and the "Feria de Abril", or the
secular stones of the Italica, cradle of the emperors Trajan
and Hadrian.
The
peculiarity in the differentiation of its quarters, such as
Macarena, one of the most popular ones, Triana with ins white
houses, or Santa Cruz, the most typical one where the Jewish
population of Sevilla lived.
Cordoba
Córdoba is a captivating city, with the Cathedral/Mezquita
, whose characteristics are unique in Europe: a splendid Mezquita
into which a Cathedral with gothic, plateresque and baroque
elements is built; with surprising light- and colour-effects
and almost a thousand columns.
The
Alcázar of the Christian Kings is a building of military character,
where wonderful gardens, caliphal bathes and ogival domes
can be admired.
It
is believed that the Emperor Augustus ordered the construction
of the "Puente Romana", the Roman Bridge, consisting of 16
archs; on one end is the "Torre Fortaleza de la Calahorra",
and on the other the "Arco del Triunfo".
The
Medina Azahara, whose construction was ordered by Abd al-Ramán
3., sometimes lodged until 12000 people. All members of the
caliphate resided there.
The
"Calleja de las Flores"(the lane of flowers) is one of the
most visited streets and of extraordinary beauty, from a small
square the minaret of the Mezquita can be seen.
Ronda
Ronda is situated on a plateau of 780 meters, in the southwest
of the province of Malaga. The city is famous for its houses
contructed on the edge of the precipice (they are called "the
hanging houses of the Tajo") as well as for its typical house
façades with their windowgrates and the numerous manor-houses
with their heraldic shields.
Its
geographical situation is enviable: mountains protect the city;
with their gorges and cliffs they create an inaccessibility
and seclusion that gives Ronda the characteristics of a natural
fortress; the three walls encircling the city and their towers
create a military touch.
Ronda
was conquered in 1485 by the Catholic Kings. This caused the
reorganisation of the culture and physiognomy of the city. However,
the typical and symbolic monuments of Ronda, the New Bridge
(el Puente Nuevo) and the bullfight-arena (la Plaza de Toros)
were built in the 18th century.
In
the 19th century, the romantic image of the city with its cock-
and bull stories and the art of bullfighting was created.
The
cultural and traditional richness of the city is varied; and
this variety is the reason for the attraction of today's Ronda.
Antequera
y El Torcal
The Torcal is the ideal place to observe the corrosive effects
that water and the climate have on limestone, and to value the
demonstrations of the Karstic Model. An oneiric, surrealistic
place where our imagination makes us see different images modelled
in the stone. This natural place is comlpeted by the richness
of fauna and flora.
The
most important megalithic group of Europe can be found in Antequera;
the "Dolmen of Menga" is the oldest one. Impressive blocks of
stone were transported from quarries to give shape to these
initial architectual proofs of mankind.
The
"Golden Age" of Antequera was during the epoches of Renaissance
and Baroque; due to the presence of nobility and religious orders,
beautiful buildings such as "la Real Colegiata de Santa María
la Mayor" and the churches "iglesia de San Sebastian" , "iglesia
del Carmen" and " iglesia los Remedios" were built.
Alpujarras
The Alpujarras have preserved their beauty and mystery. Their
customs and traditions, the way of living and their physiognomy
belong to another epoch; a sequence of different landscapes
with small villages which are situated in slopes or quiet
valleys.
This
region still is a special, magical piece of land, with a cultural
as well as natural variety that is unique. In all parts of
the Alpujarras, a great variety of microclimates, fauna and
flora can be found.
The
Islamic population, called "Al- Andalus", has deeply influenced
this region; the expulsion of the Moorish gave way to Christian
repopulations; since then the Alpujarras have preserved their
own, special history.
Historical
personalities and events, together with the existing natural
elements, have given way to their traditions, faith, art,
celebrations and festivals, music and dances, the rich weaftmanship,
and, above all, the special architecture of its villages which
is based on an architectural concept that is unique.
The
richness and variety of the agriculture is the basis for the
production of typical meals, wine and sweets.
Camino
del Agua
This is an area which, due to its geographical and meteorological
characteristics, forms an incomparable habit for being in
touch with nature.
This
trip goes along and through the river which flows through
a landscape of great ecological value, with wild mountains
parting the river, narrowed between gigantic walls of lime
stone which have formed narrow gorges and cliffs where the
water precipitates beautiful waterfalls and forms pools and
ponds of cristalclear and quiet water where we will be able
to bathe.
You
will be immersed in a flora consisting of honeysuckle, thyme,
marjoram, rosemary...which impregnate the route with a special,
natural scent.
The
fauna is varied, with a great ornithological richness, protected
reptiles, black vultures, wild boars and wild goats.
You
will walk through winding valleys with steep slopes, surrounded
by green plantations of subtropical fruits such as mangos,
medlars, avocados and chirimoyas.
